A simple way to keep a mirror of a web site is simply use the -mirror (-m) command such as:
wget -m http://www.myhomesite.com
and you are able to get a log of this activity and what happens by adding the -o weblog to the line which is useful.
There are so many options for wget if you have a problem or would like to see more of what wget will do view the well documented and easy to read help file wget --help
